It's been days since Ian McShane broke the Internet by saying his Game of Thrones character would bring back another beloved character from the show, prompting a wave of new theories about his words possibly being about Jon Snow. As season 6 of HBO's epic tale about Westeros approaches, McShane, obviously not caring one bit about HBO's policies, continues to throw spoilers around.
Speaking to The Telegraph about his other television project, a starring role in Julian Fellows' series Doctor Throne, the actor candidly spoke about the way the Internet had reacted to his original GoT comments, asking people to "get a f***ing life" and arguing the show is just "t*ts and dragons."
Going further, the 73-year-old actor explained he'd first only considered to be on the show because his friends Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) and Stephen Dillane (Stannis Baratheon) worked on the series, but then he was informed both characters had been killed off.
"I wasn't sure whether I could commit, but then they said it would only be for one episode, so I said, 'So that means I must die at the end of it. Great, I'm in,'" McShane said ever so candidly.
At this point it seems like, given enough time, McShane might just tell the whole story of the season.
Last week, McShane appeared on BBC Breakfast to talk about his upcoming role in the sixth season of the pop culture series, and besides saying he brings a popular character back from the dead (it appears it might be Sandor Clegane instead of Jon Snow), he revealed he plays "an ex-warrior who's become a peacenik," so there's still plenty of information left.
McShane's getting a lot of work these days: besides the two aforementioned projects, the British actor was also recently cast in Bryan Fuller's upcoming television series American Gods, in the role of Mr. Wednesday.
In any case, the next season of Game of Thrones premieres on April 24 -- and, if you don't want to hear more spoilers from the series, it might be a good idea to steer away from Mr. McShane's interviews from now on.
