The upcoming DC flick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will introduce Ben Affleck as an older Bruce Wayne but it will also mark the return of Henry Cavill as the new Kal-El who has to deal with the results of his disastrous encounter with his fellow Kryptonians in Man of Steel. Cavill has just spoken about how Superman feels about being seen as a villain by mankind, and it looks like he isn't very happy about it!
In an interview with Insing Movies, the Batman v Superman star stated that although he is happy with the growth of his character, he also thinks that Kal isn't pleased with how people are reacting to his efforts to save Metropolis from total destruction.
"He never thought that he would be accused of being the bad guy," Cavill said of Superman, adding that although he was already warned about the consequences, he didn't expect so much hatred from humanity.
"He realized people may fear him, but he never thought it would go that far," he said.
Cavill also discussed the difference between his version of Superman's alter ego compared to Christopher Reeve's famous portrayal of the mild-mannered newsperson in the Richard Donner films. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. star stated that his Clark Kent is closer to the character in the comic books compared to the one Reeve portrayed in the classic movies.
"While that character is very much beloved, I feel this Clark is more in line with that -- who's a journalist, a reporter," Cavill said, adding that the new Clark is decidedly more serious.
"There's less of that light touch; less of that comedic touch to his performance," he said.
Reeve starred in four Superman films prior to his death in 2004.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder and will premiere on March 25.
