Brad Paisley and LL Cool J have a new song together that is called "Accidental Racist." I think I need to say that again for full comprehension. BRAD PAISLEY and LL COOL J have a song together, and it is called "ACCIDENTAL RACIST." What hath God wrought?
The song consists of Brad Paisley apologizing to an African-American Starbucks worker who appears to have been offended by his Confederate flag t-shirt, explaining that he's "Skynyrd fan" and a "white man comin' from the southland" stuck between "Southern pride and Southern blame." It only gets worse from here, folks.
LL Cool J takes the song to a whole 'nother level of "What were they thinking?" terrible. I can't pick a line out of this next verse to illustrate how bad it is, so here it is in full:
" Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood
What the world is really like when you're livin' in the hood
Just because my pants are saggin' doesn't mean I'm up to no good
You should try to get to know me, I really wish you would
Now my chains are gold but I'm still misunderstood
I wasn't there when Sherman's March turned the south into firewood
I want you to get paid but be a slave I never could"
That's right. LL Cool J acts a spokesperson for black slaves, and then proceeds to APOLOGIZE for the burning of Atlanta (by General Sherman, a very much white man) AS IF IT WERE BLACK SLAVES' FAULT. I just can not right now.
The duet-y bits are almost as ridiculous. Here are the two best lines:
"If you don't judge my do-rag, I won't judge your red flag" (because a cap to keep your hair straight and a symbol of a people who'd rather separate from their country than think of black people as humans are pretty much the same thing, right?)
"If you don't judge my gold chains, I'll forget the iron chains." (.............)
Brad Paisley and LL Cool J, please kill this abomination of a song. I get what you were going for, honestly, but it absolutely failed. Also, you can't rhyme chains with chains.
What do you think of Brad Paisley and LL Cool J's new song "Accidental Racist"?
