5 Roles Nicki Minaj Could Play As “Anaconda” Singer Announces She Wants to Pursue Acting

Nicki Minaj is looking to follow in the footsteps of Lady Gaga. It seems after succeeding in the world of music, the 33-year-old "Anaconda" singer wants to add acting to her resume. In fact, given her background, perhaps she too may one day win a Golden Globe.

The 6-time Grammy nominated artist actually studied her passion to act at NYC's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts, which was made legendary in the film Fame. In her upcoming interview with Nylon Minaj claimed "At that time I was obsessed with Jada Pinkett Smith - I wanted to be Jada and Halle Berry mixed. Now I'm going back to those desires."

The Pinkprint vocalist made her acting debut in the 2014 rom-com The Other Woman where she played Lydia, the assistant to Cameron Diaz. She is also set to appear in the upcoming comedy Barbershop: The Next Cut where she'll play Draya, a young party girl who does weaves at the neighborhood beauty shop which merges with the famed barbershop to save on rent. "I wanted there to be a little depth to Draya." said Minaj before adding "I didn't want her just to be, you know, an Instagram thot; I wanted her to have some sort of purpose and meaning." The BET Award winner is also producing, appearing and narrating the upcoming ABC Family sitcom about her early life in Queens, appropriately titled Nicki.

Of course, the "Pills n Potions" songstress also has her eyes on dramatic roles. "I want to do something serious. Meryl Streep is one of my favorite artists of all time. She blows me away in just about everything she does. I love how she can go from The Devil Wears Prada to The Iron Lady -- she's so incredible in that. My dream would be to have that type of acting career, where I can do both things believably." claimed Minaj in an interview with Billboard.
