The Netflix revival of cult dramedy Gilmore Girls is currently shooting, and most of the cast has already signed up to return, including Alexis Bledel (Rory) and Lauren Graham (Lorelai), but one of the most beloved characters of the show, Sookie St. James, has not been confirmed. Melissa McCarthy, who has turned into an international superstar since her time at Stars Hollow, has finally put the question to rest...
... and it seems the news is pretty bad, unfortunately. McCarthy is currently promoting her latest film, The Boss, and during the press tour she talked to E! News' Marc Malkin about the Netflix revival of the Amy Sherman-Palladino show, where she was asked the million-dollar question: will she appear on Gilmore Girls: Seasons?
"I don't think I am," said McCarthy. "I didn't actually get asked to do it. But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was."
McCarthy is one of the most sought-after comedy actresses in Hollywood, and she has a major reboot of her own going on this year. In the all-female version of Ghostbusters, she plays part of the team fighting apparitions in New York. It's quite understandable that they thought she'd be too busy, so it seems the whole thing was a misunderstanding.
Similarly, Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley weren't on board with joining the Netflix revival of the show that made them famous, Full House, as there was also a bit of crossed information and by the time they got word, they were too busy and not sure they were into acting anymore.
For now, it seems the Gilmore Girls revival will have to go on without its adorable chef, but let's hope McCarthy gets to drop by the set for at least an afternoon for a little cameo, as Sherman-Palladino has already said she'd be open to write a scene for her on short notice.
