Republican Senator of Florida, Marco Rubio, has made a statement criticizing the recent anniversary trip that pop star Beyonce and her husband, rap mogul Jay-Z, took to Cuba. A lot of drama has been stirred up about this vacation, so this statement comes as no surprise. In his statement, Rubio demands that the Obama Administration explain how a trip like this coincides with the United States regulations for traveling to Cuba.
Jay Carney, the spokesman for the White House, said that the authorization of the Cuba trip was made by the Treasury Department. The Obama Administration has loosened travel restrictions to Cuba, but that has not stopped complaints from Rubio.
In a statement made on Monday by the Florida senator, Marco Rubio said:
"According to recent news reports, Jay-Z and Beyoncé's Cuba trip, which the regime seized on for propaganda purposes, was fully licensed by the Treasury Department. If true, the Obama Administration should explain exactly how trips like these comply with U.S. law and regulations governing travel to Cuba and it should disclose how many more of these trips they have licensed."
Rubio is not the only politician criticizing the anniversary trip. Mstarz recently reported on the power couple's trip to Cub. Here is an excerpt:
American Royalty, Jay-Z and Beyoncé Carter are victims of scrutiny for their recent fifth wedding anniversary trip to Cuba. Republican lawmakers blasted the superstar couple stating that they lacked the proper license to visit Cuba and questioned if Jay and Queen B were "tourists" in Cuba, which goes against U.S. policy.
Two Republican members of Congress, issued a letter to the U.S. Treasury Department to ask for information on what type of license the two had for the high-profile trip, USA reported.
According to USA Today, In a letter dated on Friday, reports Reuters, U.S. Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart, asked Adam Szubin, director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control, for "information regarding the type of license that Beyoncé and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel."
