More than 20 years after figure skater Tonya Harding helped arrange an attack on rival Nancy Kerrigan -- which eventually got her banned from the sport for life -- the two-time Olympian's memoir I, Tonya is being made into a biopic, and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot actress Margo Robbie is set to play the lead.

According to Deadline, the Australian actress will also co-produce the project.

The movie will follow the story of Harding's rise to skating stardom and her fall from grace after her then-husband and bodyguard arranged for her chief competitor, Kerrigan, to be attacked, forcing her to withdraw from the national championship in 1994. Despite Harding's initial denials, it was later learned that she was involved in the plot.

Vanity Fair reports Harding is quite involved in the project -- the disgraced skater and Jeff Gillooly, both of whom pleaded guilty to the charges against them over the Kerrigan attack back in the '90s, spoke at length with screenwriter Steven Rogers. So far, no director is attached and no other actors have been cast.

Over the years, there have been a few documentaries and TV movies on the skating scandal, including ESPN's The Price of Gold and NBC's Nancy & Tonya.

Harding overcame an abusive childhood to become an Olympian and the first American woman to complete the triple axel.

After the scandal and her lifetime ban, Harding was stripped of her U.S. championship. She is also banned from coaching in the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
