Living lyrical legend Jay-Z made headlines last week when he announced that besides expanding his Roc Nation empire from music, clothing, libations, lounges, and basketball, to include a sports agency, with the signing of Robinson Cano Roc Nation Sports as the first client.

Now, Yahoo Sports is reporting that Jay-Z, the "face" and part share owner of the Brooklyn, Nets will now sell his shares to represent sports players as an agent.

Roc Nation Sports and its partner Creative Artists Agency plan to complete the process in time for the NBA draft in June, but Jay isn't "chasing the clock on this," according to Yahoo Sports News.

Sources told Yahoo that CAA and Jay-Z are moving forward carefully so as to end his partnership with the Nets on good terms.
Jay-Z owns less than 1 percent of the Nets. ESPN's Darren Rovell tweeted that Jay-Z's .067 percent (1/15th of a percent) stake in the Nets is worth approximately $350,000, and he could sell it tomorrow if he wanted to, according to ESPN. Jay-Z is a significant part of the franchise, as he played a pivotal roll in the marketing. Jay-Z's solidified credibility in his home borough of Brooklyn, now home of the Nets, helped to orchestrate an abundance of press surrounding the former New Jersey team.

He was the first to show off the Nets' new uniform during the inaugural concert at the Barclays Center in September, as reported by Yahoo Sports News, a move which helped drive merchandise sales. In their first year in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Nets top out at 4th in the NBA in merchandise sales this season, behind only the New York Knicks, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers, according to The Brooklyn Game.
"It would be disappointing [if he left]," Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "I'd be disappointed," ESPN reported.

"He had an enormous amount to do with the rebranding of the team. I wasn't close to it at all, but from what I've seen, it would be hard to overstate his importance in this all, Carlesimo told ESPN. "I like his involvement in the team; he's at the games, and maybe he's around more than I realize behind the scenes. But he's an excellent fan, one that wasn't just around this year, but a lot in the past too, which is very telling to me."

What would happen to the Nets fan base if Jay-Z disassociated him self with the team to pursue a career as a sports agent? If you listen to Jay-Z music, which can be interpreted as a diary (so to speak), he is an avid sports fan; that coupled with his business savvy could you see him as a credible sports agent?
