The Rick Ross date rape lyrics debate is heating up and Maybach Music Group artist, Meek Millz, is the latest artist to chime in.
Mstarz News originally reported on the Rick Ross controversy with Rocko's "U.O.E.N.O" song. Several critics claimed the date rape lyrics illustrated lack of lyrical creativity, which resulted in offending women's groups around the nation and igniting a major debate surrounding Rozay "condoning rape."
"Put Molly all in her champagne, she didn't even know it" "I took her home and I enjoyed that, she didn't even know it," Rick Ross rapped. But to label mate, protégé, and close friend Meek Millz, Ross's lyrics are simply "hip-hop."
"I don't even care about nobody criticizing no lyrics. People rap about killing stuff all day. Biggie said, Rape your kid. Throw her over the bridge.' It was nothing, it was just hip-hop," Meek Millz said in a recent Urban Informer interview.
Meek Millz went on to denounce responses to the date rape lyrics, on account that rap music is vulgar and that he's "from the hood" so he doesn't care about what anybody says in a rap.
"Now you got all these weirdos on these social sites voicing their opinion about something anybody say. I don't care. I'm from the 'hood. I never really cared about what nobody say in no rap. Rap's always been talking about killing, drugs, all types of stuff."
Meek Millz take on not caring what anyone says in a rap is surprising, given his recent public rap beef with fellow Philadelphia native rapper Cassidy. The two rappers went back and forth with dis tracks and on often times responding to claims from the opposing side.
While most fans, and rappers such as Talib Kweli and Lupe Fiasco expressed concern with the lyrics, Meek Millz alluded that "The Boss" was being creative.
"It's imaginary visual. If a writer write about somebody getting raped in a movie, that mean he a rapist or he want girls to get raped? No, he just wrote about that in a movie."
Meek Millz did make a point, Rick Ross, real name William Roberts, has said in previous interviews that he raps about "what people want to hear." He keeps his time spent on the enforcing side of the law, out of his lyrics to focus on the drug dealing aspects because that is what the industry calls for. Nevertheless, this recent lyrical recall may prompt Rozay to rap about things that he does condone.
Rap fans can all admit that Rick Ross is a catchy artist. Many of his infamous hit singles, from "Boss" to "MC Hammer" have lingered on the brain, however, how many fans can see them selves relating to slipping a drug in a female's drink?
Rick Ross did offer an apology via his Twitter account, in which he pointed out that he does not condone rape, however, the tweet came after fans petitioned for Reebok to discontinue Rick Ross's endorsement deal.
