Just when you thought the late night talk show rumor mill was going to slow down, another big name celebrity has entered the mix. With the news that Jimmy Fallon has signed on with NBC for a long term deal that will allow him to gracefully (or so NBC hopes) take over for Jay Leno hosting the "Tonight Show" it looked like all there was left to figure out was Fallon's successor on "Late Night." It looks like NBC has plans to change hosts for its entire late night lineup, and yes, that includes Carson Daly's often forgotten about "Last Call."
An NBC executive reportedly told the New York Times that former "30 Rock" star Alex Baldwin could be in line to take over for Carson Daly as the host of the 30 minute long interview show "Last Call" on at 1:35am. According to the New York Times article the process of Baldwin becoming the new host is in its initial stages, but it sounds like it would be a perfect match.
Baldwin is a big name actor who already hosts a podcast series for WNYC radio in New York called "Here's the Thing." Baldwin is a well respected actor and has experience in various formats, including Broadway for his role in the current play "Orphans" as well as comedy. Baldwin is also a very good talk show guest and has the experience interviewing celebrities on his podcast. With "30 Rock" no longer on the air, it seems like Baldwin would be in the market for a new TV gig. The New York Times articles also mentions that hosting "Last Call" would still allow Baldwin the freedom to do other projects as he could tape several interviews on the same day.
With Fallon set to take over the "Tonight Show" from Jay Leno soon, Seth Meyers the rumored front runner to take over for Fallon on "Late Night," and now Baldwin allegedly interested in taking the "Last Call" hosting duties from Carson Daly it looks like NBC has big changes in store for its late night lineup.
