Heading into mid-Week 2 of the MLB 2013 regular season, Bleacher Report sports columnist Joel Reuter predicts the season outlook team power rankings. The Orioles currently rank the no 11 overall team. As Reuter points out, "Slugger Chris Davis was the story of the season's first week. He hit a home run in each of the team's first four games and closed out the week hitting .455 with 17 RBI and three doubles to go along with his four long balls. In total, the Orioles are hitting .301 as a team, and their 37 runs scored rank fourth in the MLB. Their lineup has been terrific top to bottom. The pitching, however, has been another story. Their starters have a combined 5.67 ERA and have thrown just 33.1 innings total. One has to imagine the pitching will improve and the hitting will come down to earth, with things evening out somewhere in the middle for them as a team."
Baltimore currently holds a 3-4 winning record, having just played the Tamp Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins in Week 1 of the season.
The Red Sox snag the no 16 overall spot (out of 30 teams). According to Reuter, "The Red Sox opened their season against the rival Yankees, taking two of three before also winning two of three against the Blue Jays. They finished off their week with a convincing 13-0 win on Sunday. Will Middlebrooks had a three-homer game on Sunday and is hitting .320 with four home runs and six RBI so far. Shortstop Jose Iglesias leads the team with a .529 average to go along with his phenomenal defense. The pitching staff took a hit when John Lackey went down with what appeared to be a serious arm injury, but the rest of the staff has pitched well to this point. Jon Lester has been particularly effective, allowing just two earned runs while striking out 13 in his first two starts to open the year 2-0."
After playing the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays in Week 1, Boston has five wins and two losses. The Sox proved victorious in Game 1 against Baltimore with a score of 3-1.
The ball game will be broadcasted live on local channels MASN and NESN, but fans can listen in on the radio at WBAL, WSPZ 570, 1013 ESPN, WEEI, and The Big Jab.
