We are down to the top 6 contestants on season 12 of "American Idol." It's no secret to anyone who watches or follows the show that the females are a lot better than the males this season. This is why there is only one male left, Lazaro Arbos. You can make the argument Arbos isn't even the best male singer, but he has a dedicated fan base who continue to vote for the underdog. Last night the remaining "Idol" singers performed twice paying tribute to pianist Burt Bacharach as well as going along with the theme "songs they wish they had written." Wednesday night one contestant fell flat on their face, while Candice Glover again shined, making herself the clear front runner.
Angie Miller is the first to perform when she sings Dionne Warwick's "Anyone Who Had a Heart." Not the best performance from Miller, who failed to wow the judges or the audience. Amber Holcomb is up next performing "I Say a Little Prayer" and, unlike Miller, she wows the judges. Holcomb got a "in it to win it" from Randy Jackson while the rest of the judges all praise her performance.
Lazaro Arbos sings The Carpenters' "(They Long to Be) Close to You." This performance is terrible and gets criticized heavily by the judges. Randy calls it the worst performance on "Idol" this season, which is saying something since there have been some pretty bad performances.
Kree Harrison follows up Arbos' horrible performance with a great rendition of "What the World Needs Now is Love." Harrison knocks it out of the park and gets praised by the judges. Janelle Arthur follows up Kree with "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" and does an okay job. Nicki Minaj and Randy aren't impressed and feel it was missing something. Finally Candice Glover gets her chance and sings "Don't Make Me Over" to the delight of the judges. Glover does a nice job and it was easily one of the better performances of the night.
Starting off the second round of performances, Miller sings "Love Came Down" by Kari Jobe. Miller does a great job with this song and even gets a little emotional afterwards. Holcomb performs "Love on Top" by Beyonce and puts on a more upbeat, fun performance. The judges loved her performance and Nicki said she has "arrived."
Lazaro sings "Angels" by Robbie Williams and although it isn't horrible it just isn't on par with the other contestants who are left on the show. The judges basically tell him he isn't as good as the females and it definitely seems like everyone is ready for Lazaro to be voted off. Kree performs "Help Me Make it Through the Night" next and does another solid job. Janelle performs a Garth Brooks song and does an okay job. She is better than Lazaro, but I feel like Janelle may be the next worst singer left in the competition.
Candice Glover finishes the show with a bang with her performance of The Cure's "Love Song." Glover puts on the best performance of the night and not only gets a standing ovation from the judges, but Mariah Carey throws glitter on her. Glover is arguably the top singer and is joined by Angie, Kree, and Amber. Unfortunately I think Lazaro's time is up Thursday night and Janelle may soon follow.
