Zack Snyder's first take on the DC Extended Universe, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is playing in theaters now to great box office success and pretty terrible critic response. Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex Luthor has received mixed reviews as an inaccurate take on the character -- but will the Oscar nominee return for the Justice League movies?
Eisenberg, currently promoting the film, recently spoke to Business Insider about his time as Superman's nemesis, and with Justice League Part One beginning principal photography in just a few weeks, he was obviously asked about his involvement in future in DCEU installments.
"I don't know if they are so settled on where my character goes," Eisenberg said when asked whether fans could see his now shaven-haired Lex in more films, now that he's in prison. "I only hope I have another opportunity to work with these wonderful people and play this interesting character."
In other words, the actor is either being very coy or he's definitely not appearing on the first part of the Justice League. If he were involved it'd be absurd that he didn't know about it now that production start is so near.
However, DC has tried to remain secretive about character appearances in the past, like how Ben Affleck was spotted on the Suicide Squad set before any announcements of Batman joining the film had been made.
In any case, Eisenberg definitely has his hands full these days with projects other than DC. While it's clear the actor really enjoys playing disturbed billionaires, the actor and playwright has two unrelated projects scheduled for 2016 alone: a sequel to his 2013 film Now You See Me and Café Society, his second collaboration with legendary director Woody Allen, which will open this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Lex or no Lex, production for Justice League Part One will begin shortly, and the film will be released on Nov. 16, 2017.
