Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill recently appeared on Conan O'Brien's show to talk about their recent outing in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the two shared the experiences of being cast in their superhero roles. In a hilarious turn of events, Cavill actually missed Snyder's call to play the Kryptonian on Man of Steel -- because he was too busy playing World of Warcraft!
Dawn of Justice is Cavill's second outing as Kal-El after 2013's Man of Steel, and he might just owe the part to Snyder's patience, considering he failed to answer the filmmaker's call. On last Thursday's Conan, the British actor revealed he was doing something far more important when he got the call the first time --- playing a video game.
"I was playing World of Warcraft at the time, and I had my priorities straight," Cavill shared with O'Brien and co-star Affleck last Thursday. "And then I looked across at the last moment and I saw Zack Snyder's name on the phone, so I grabbed the phone and then missed it. And.... so, I called him back immediately and said 'I'm really sorry, I was saving someone's life.'"
It was effective enough, because he's about to start shooting his third film as the Kryptonian in just a few days!
Right before the big WoW revelation, O'Brien asked Affleck the same thing, and his response was very Bruce Wayne: at first, he wasn't altogether that sure on whether to play the Caped Crusader, possibly in part because he had flashbacks of his time as Daredevil.
Still, when Snyder told him the Batman he'd be playing was "older and he's really f*cked up and he's broken down and he's on the edge of moral bankruptcy," Affleck was convinced and joked that he was clearly the man for the job.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is in theaters now.
