15-year-old Audrie Pott hanged herself after allegedly being sexually assaulted by three 16-year-old boys who later posted pictures of the assault on social networks, circulating it around classmates. Eight days after the 2012 attack, Audrie, a gifted artist and musician who attended Saratoga High School, noticed the photos and posted to her Facebook page, "worst day ever," and then committed suicide. Seven months later, these 3 boys have been arrested for the crime.

"The family has been trying to understand why their loving daughter would have taken her life at such a young age and to make sure that those responsible would be held accountable," said the Pott family attorney Robert Allard.

"After an extensive investigation that we have conducted on behalf of the family, there is no doubt in our minds that the victim, then only 15 years old, was savagely assaulted by her fellow high school students while she lay on a bed completely unconscious."

Allard also described the case in more detail, explaining how the accused used cell phones to share the photos of the attack. These photos eventually went viral.

The boys that allegedly sexually assaulted Audrie were arrested seven months after her suicide. Since all of the accused are underage, their names have not been released to the media whereas Audrie's name has due to her family insisting that her name and case be known.

Audrie's mother, father and stepmother started the Audrie Pott Foundation, which provides art and music scholarships and offers youth counseling and support. The website for the foundation reads:

"She was compassionate about life, her friends, her family, and would never do anything to harm anyone. She was in the process of developing the ability to cope with the cruelty of this world but had not quite figured it all out. Ultimately, she had not yet acquired the antibiotics to deal with the challenges present for teens in today's society."

An outpouring of support was generated in response to Audrie's attack and death. In these photos from Facebook you can see some examples of this:
