It's a good week in music, or so it is projected to be for Young Money rapper Tyga.
The Compton rapper, who made a name for himself with his strip club anthems, "Make It Nasty" and "Rack City, is slated to top the first week sales from his last album Careless World: Rise Of The Last King, with his third release, Hotel California, according to HotNewHipHop.com.
Released on Tuesday, April 9 via Young Money Entertainment, Hotel California features appearances from a number of noteworthy artists including 2 Chainz, Future, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne, Hip Hop DX reports.
However, the first two singles "Dope" and "Molly" are less than chart toppers. Although both singles feature verses from big names in rap, Wiz Khalifa and Rick Ross, they are failing to reach the success of the 2012 hit "Rack City".
However other singles are getting a buzz, Tyga's "Hit em Up" with Tupac and Jadakiss is getting play, but it seems like Tyga is at his best when he sticks to strip club simplicity?
What do you think of "Hit Em Up?" Will you help to increase Hotel California sales?
In other T-RAW news, Tyga was one of the rappers to comment on the Rick Ross “Put molly all in her champagne, she ain't even know it / I took her home and enjoyed that, she ain't even know it," date rape lyrics.
He said in an online interview:
"What he said, that's just freedom of speech," said Tyga. "People act like they don't condone it. Like you can't say what you feel. You know what I'm saying? It's just stupid."
BET reported that Tyga is dealing with a somewhat similar controversy: The rapper's upcoming performance at Harvard University is being boycotted by a student group that's accusing him of promoting sexism and rape.
Tyga offered an explanation for supporting Rick Ross, as the two artist appear on his track "Dope" togethter.
"I wanted to speak on that because this weekend I'm performing at Harvard, which is one of the most prestigious universities in the world," Tyga said. "There's a group on campus that are protesting to not have me perform because of my lyrics. And they said I promote sexism and rape culture... At the end of the day people have the right to have opinions. I have the right to have an opinion. And I have the right to say what I want on my music cause it's my music. If you don't like it, don't click on it, don't download it. I think it's just getting out of hand with the whole, like, people looking into it too much."
The Harvard University group should note that Tyga does condone strippers and that "lifestyle." The California native, who is also cousins with Gym Class Heroes Lead, Katy Perry's ex, Travis McCoy welcomed a baby boy with Miami King of Dimonds stripper, Blac Chyna just last year. A video of Blac Chyna stripping for Rick Ross, at DJ Khaled's Birthday Party hit the net in 2012 as well.
