Weeks ahead of the international release for this year's major Marvel Cinematic Universe event, Captain America: Civil War, it seems the wait to see this beloved comic book arc has been worth it as the first reviews are fantastic! Certain factions of the press have already seen the first Phase 3 film and so far the reactions are great. The Russo brothers sequel might be MCU's best!
The highlights seem to be the new additions to the Avengers, which is to say Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther.
The more I think about CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR the more I love it. Such a great film. And one of the best superhero movies.

Really didn't think I'd care *that* much seeing Spider-Man hanging out with all the other characters. But there he was and it made me happy! — Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) April 9, 2016
Really incredible character work in #CivilWar. Spider-Man, Ant-Man & Black Panther kill it & Wanda/Vision & Bucky/Sam dynamics are wonderful — Eric Eisenberg (@eeisenberg) April 9, 2016

At 8pm, WINTER SOLDIER was my favorite MCU film.
Roughly 2.5 hours later, CIVIL WAR is now #1.

On the heels of Warner Bros' Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Marvel's Civil War comes as the second major superhero showdown of 2016, and it's already got one thing its DC competitor didn't achieve: critical acclaim. Three weeks after the release of the DC Extended Universe film that introduced Batman and Wonder Woman to the big screen, the film holds a dismal critical rating of 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a mixed 49% on Metacritic.
So far, the reactions are pretty positive, but things won't be defined until the movie reaches theaters internationally by the end of April, and domestically in the first weekend of May.
As far as its competitor goes, Batman v Superman is about to reach $700 million globally, but it was recently dethroned of the number one spot in the USA box office by the Melissa McCarthy comedy, The Boss.
Still, it's a different story for Civil War: Marvel has been building up to its Cinematic Universe for years (this will be the 13th film, without even counting the TV shows), while Dawn of Justice is only the first of a series of planned Justice League movies.
Captain America: Civil War will hit theaters on May 6.
