Episodes, the show that gave Matt LeBlanc a huge comeback and even earned him his first (and so far only) Golden Globe Award, is coming to an end. The actor who gave life to Joey Tribbiani on Friends is leaving TV comedy once again when season 5 finale of his Showtime series wraps up -- but he's joining a popular UK show!
According to TV Guide, LeBlanc will see his last Episodes with the upcoming fifth season, which will begin shooting next week in London. The last season will be airing next year, which will consist of 7 episodes.
Showtime's confirmation on the show's finale comes after months of speculation regarding its fate. On the show, which first aired in 2011, LeBlanc plays a fictionalized and much more arrogant version of himself, now starring in the American remake of a successful British show. For season 5, he'll also get to host a game show called The Box -- much like that time in Friends when Joey auditioned to host Bamboozled.
Episodes was co-created by David Crane, also one of the people responsible for Friends. Since its premiere, the comedy series has received 10 Emmy nods, including several for LeBlanc's work and the show's writing.
"We have had the best time making this show. Showtime has been the opposite of every network we write about," Crane and co-creator Jeffrey Klarik told Variety when the show's cancellation hit the news. "If it were up to them we could go on making Episodes forever. But we've told the story we set out to tell and we'd never want to outstay our welcome."
LeBlanc will continue to work in the United Kingdom for a new project, as he's been confirmed as one of the presenters of BBC's long-running Top Gear, where he'll be joining Chris Evans starting May 22.
