WGN America continues with the highly anticipated premiere of their new original drama, Underground. In Episode 6, Troubled Water, Noah (Aldis Hodge) and Rosalee (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) continue to plan their daring 600-mile escape from their Georgia plantation.

Still on the run, Noah, Rosalee, Henry, and Cato (Alano Miller) find themselves arguing with each other. Starving and exhausted, the three start to turn on each other. The three end up hijacking a boat in order to cross the river.

With his plantation in ruins, Tom Macon (Reed Diamond) gets a visit from The Reverend. As his wife is about to give birth, Tom asks the Reverend to hold a baptism ceremony for his slaves.

Just when hunter August Pullman (Christopher Meloni) crashes onto the boat, he drags Rosalee in the water with him. As Rosalee swims back to the boat, August gets shot in the back. August and his son end up on the same path with a vixen, who jumped off the boat before.

John Hawkes (Marc Blucas) and his wife Elizabeth (Jessica De Gouw) continue to remodel the nursery as a place for runaway slaves to hide from the law. Elizabeth though is still haunted by the deaths of Josey and his friend. The Marshal pays a visit and deputizes John so that he can carry a gun and hunt slaves with him.

Out on the boat, Noah and the others find a stowaway, who promises to help them. Unwilling to to trust a white man, Cato kicks the stowaway overboard and lets him drown. The group wonder if the Native Americans are out there, they might also see them as slaves.

John isn't too fond of hunting slaves but Elizabeth reminds her husband that he has to keep up appearances. Just when the Marshal begins to suspect John and his lies, a runaway slave attacks him in the caves. With the Marshal unconscious and the hunters close behind, John has to figure out a way to hide Clyde.

The Marshal wakes up and finds his head wound all bandaged up. The Marshal thanks John and Elizabeth for their services as he leaves to find the slave who attacked him. Clyde was actually hiding in John's carriage the entire time.

Noah looks around the boat but cannot find Rosalee anywhere. With the two fighting each other, Cato reminds Noah that Rosalee is gone because she was weak. In the morning, the boy finds his father, August, drunk and naked on the bed, after having slept with the vixen.

The Reverend watches the boys run around and play in the garden. As he keeps an eye on them, The Reverend is drawing a foreboding portrait of demons and angels. Tom was trying to force himself onto Ernestine, but stopped himself when he saw she was afraid of him.

August finds himself in a standoff with rival slave hunters. With his son calling out for him, August lowers his gun and leaves. Just when the hunters are about to shoot, they are suddenly ambushed by Native Americans.

Noah and the others see Rosalee leading the Native Americans against the slave hunters.
