The Justice League films have certainly hit the jackpot when it was announced that Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons would portray Commissioner James Gordon in Zack Snyder's two-part DC Extended Universe movie. Now the former Spider-Man actor is speaking up about the role, which he says he's preparing for it by reading plenty of comic books! But will he appear in the Ben Affleck-directed Batman standalone flick?
Simmons recently spoke to Collider, where he admitted that he had seen the several movie incarnations of Gordon, including the most recent one played by Gary Oldman in the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy.
"Obviously, a lot of really wonderful actors have played that character previously, and most of them I saw at the time the movies came out, never imagining that I would be doing the same thing," Simmons admitted, although he was quick to point out that he will no longer be doing any cinematic research on Commissioner Gordon.
"I'm not planning on going back and watching any of the other films," he revealed.
It looks like Simmons, who didn't read a lot of comic books when he was younger, will be learning about Gordon the old-fashioned way. In addition to that, the Whiplash star hinted that there may be more DCEU films for him in the future.
"I'm just planning on learning as much as I can about him through the comics and getting my feet wet in the first movie, and then hopefully continuing on from there," Simmons revealed.

But does this mean that Gordon will appear in the planned Batman solo film, which has recently been confirmed to be directed by Affleck? This is certainly a welcome possibility for fans of Simmons and the Caped Crusader.
Justice League - Part 1 will premiere on November 17, 2017 while Part 2 is scheduled for release on June 14, 2019. There is no word yet on when the Batman solo movie will be released.
