Conor McGregor Retiring? Former Champion is Out of UFC 200 Rematch With Nate Diaz

Two of the biggest names in the MMA world just quit out of nowhere. Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, who fought one another in March and were slated for a rematch on July 9 in UFC 200, both sent out tweets Tuesday with the news, which has yet to be confirmed.

McGregor has sparked a social media frenzy after tweeting that he is retiring. The 27-year-old wrote on Twitter, "I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya's later."

The news comes in the wake of a McGregor loss to Diaz in UFC 196, which was McGregor’s first UFC defeat as well as his first professional loss in six years.

Many felt that McGregor's message was a hoax or his account was hacked, but it's since been confirmed he's out of July's UFC 200 event. UFC President Dana White has confirmed that McGregor he will not be taking part in the showpiece event. White revealed that the decision was made after he informed UFC officials he would not participate in any promotional activities, including a commercial shoot and press conferences.

The UFC is currently working on a new main event for the card, which will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to its official website.

After learning his UFC 200 opponent's retirement, Diaz also decided to follow in his footsteps saying, “I guess my work here is done. I’m retiring too.”
