Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth UPDATE: After Marriage Called Off, Liam Alone For MTV Movie Awards While Promoting 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

After a series of high-profile relationship problems, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth decided to call off their impending June marriage, reaizing that they weren't quite ready for that next step. However, could things be worse than Miley and Liam are letting on? It certainly seems that way as Hemsworth attended the MTV Movie Awards alone to debut the teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

It's a rather important moment for Hemsworth as The Hunger Games is certainly his most noteworthy role, but Cyrus did not attend as Liam's date and show support. This doesn't bode well for the couple.

Tensions between the couple began when Hemsworth jetted off to Australia without Cyrus. During this time, Cyrus was spotted without her massive engagement ring, which caused rumors to fly. Cyrus later admitted via a Twitter conversation that she was having her ring altered but subsequent appearances without the ring have damaged this idea.

After this Miley was allegedly spotting having lunch with ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas. Cyrus vehemently denied the rumors on Twitter, while Jonas couldn't seem to give a straight answer to reporters.

Since then, Miley has been spotted partying in Miami without Liam (or her ring) and Liam was seen chatting up a mystery woman in Los Angeles during Miley's absence. Insiders even spoke of Liam wanting an "open relationship" which Miley was not about.

"Miley is going through a wild phase, but she's still the same girl underneath and she really believes in true love and soul mates and it's just ridiculous to think she'd agree to that kind of arrangement!"  an inside source told HollwoodLife.com.

Finally, the couple announced that the marriage was off, but that they were still dating.

"They were supposed to get married in June," an unnamed insider told Life&Style. "But there have been so many problems with them."

"They thought it was best to work out their issues before making such a big commitment. Everyone keeps it saying it - they're too young to be getting married."

And now, there's Liam riding solo to the MTV Movie Awards.
