Stray dogs and cats are problems in all countries where the for-legged friends are taken in as pets and extended members of the family. In Apia, Samoa, stray dogs, is a huge problem, but one politician said that killing the dogs and exporting the meat is the answer.

Tole'afoa Apulu Fa'afisi, the education minister of Samoa, said that the dog's meat could be used for something, like "food or sausage."  He suggested that the meat could be imported to some countries that eat snake or dog.

Fa'afisi, said that other members of parliament are on his side. The Minister of Finance Faumuina Tiatia Liuga chipped in with praise of the warming qualities of dog meat, according to Pacific Island Report. "When it gets cold in Asia the moment you eat dog meat you feel warm afterwards," Samoa News quoted Faumuina.

Nevertheless, there are locals who are against his dog meat export business. "No, it shouldn't even be encouraged at all," a woman told ONE News.

But the police minister, Sala Fata Pinati, said it would be "inhumane" to start shooting at stray dogs without obtaining a court order, according to the Telegraph.

"We don't just walk to the market where there are a lot of stray dogs and start using a gun to shoot them," the Telegraph reported Pinati as saying.
