Drake is back on his emotional, soul-barring grind with his latest, "Girls Love Beyonce." The song features guest vox from James Fauntleroy and a "Say My Name" sampling chorus.
The track starts with a dark, ominous bass line (that sounds like an off-key performance of "Forgot About Dre") that gradually morphs into a 90s R&B stroke as the song goes along and more layers are added. Drake starts out in a No Limit-esque ramble that might cause your eye to twitch due to the fact that he's ever-so-slightly off-beat. However, after Fauntelroy comes in to bat cleanup on the chorus, Drake collects himself and delivers for the rest of the song.
This is a return to form for Drizzy, as he made a name for himself as a heart-on-his-sleeve wordsmith with tracks that dealt with breakups ("Marvin's Room", "Find Your Love") and the darker side of fame ("Over", "Headlines"). The Beyonce nod is not out of place as Drake has come out as a bigger stan for Bey than just about anyone (the obvious exception being Aaliyah).
The track is one of two released today by Drake. The other, "No New Friends" is referenced at the beginning of the song.
What do you think of Drake's latest "Girls Love Beyonce"? Are you glad to see Drake return to what made him famous?
