Remember when the world got excited over Chappie director Neill Blomkamp's proposed Alien film, only to have it pushed back to make way for Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel? Sigourney Weaver doesn't, but that doesn't mean she isn't looking forward to working on it! The woman who plays Ellen Ripley has just confirmed the Alien movie will happen, and it will be "worth the wait!"
Weaver recently attended an event (via Live For Film), where she confirmed that Blomkamp's Alien flick will push through. Sort of, anyway.
"Well, I THINK it is," Weaver stated, adding that Scott had told Blomkamp to allow him to finish his films first.
"Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien until after Prometheus 2," she revealed. "He wanted his movie to shoot and be released first."
Nevertheless, Weaver admitted that she is truly looking forward to doing the Alien movie with Blomkamp.
"It's an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it," she gushed.
Although Weaver is currently tied to other projects, she teased that Blomkamp's Alien film will happen.
"We're doing other things until we can get going on that," she said. "I'd be really surprised if we didn't do it, because it's such a great script, and we love working together."
In conclusion, Weaver declared that although the new Alien film will not happen soon, it is definitely something to look forward to.
"It's just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it'll be worth the wait," she promised.
Weaver was catapulted into cult classic icon status when she portrayed the fierce last-girl Ripley in Scott's Alien. The actress has played the character in four films in total, which included a Ripley/xenomorph clone hybrid that could sink a basketball from across the court without even looking.
There is no word yet on when Blomkamp's Alien film will be released.
