Selena Gomez has been getting some major heat over her debut performance of her new song "Come and Get It" at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. Officials from the Universal Society of Hinduism have reportedly deemed the 20-year-old's performance while sporting a bindi symbol on her forehead as "insensitive." Now the Spring Breakers star is being demanded to apologize for her cultural faux pas.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed says that the bindi on the forehead is an "ancient Hindu practice that has a religious significance" that is also sometimes referred to as 'the third eye and flame' and is not meant to be used as a fashion accessory. Zed also encourages Gomez to apologize for the performance and to maybe try to get a better understanding of world religions.
Here are some Twitter reactions to Selena's choice of wearing a bindi:
Selena Gomez, take that bindi of your head, cultural appropriation is not cute. And neither is your singing.

There have yet to be an apology or any comments in response to this controversy from Selena Gomez or any of her representatives. Do you think her bindi accessory was insensitive? When do you think she will respond?
Earlier this month, Jason Evigan, who collaborated on Gomez's latest material, said: "I think it's going to take her to the next level... She's got some really cool like ethnic influence, kind of tribally dance drums and stuff like that. I kind of feel she's going to be like a new J.Lo kind of thing."
