Independence Day 2 or Independence Day: Resurgence is going to release worldwide on June 23, 2016. Once again, we will get to see an alien invasion on Earth and at the end, we will defeat them using their own technologies. From the looks of the recently released trailers, it looks like the upcoming film is going to be much larger than life (and the original film).

As reported by Independent, the recently released trailer showed how the aliens have destroyed London. A mass destruction was also featured as the popular landmarks and buildings were pulled up by the aliens in order to destroy the earth.

During the recently held CinemaCon, the 22-year-old actress, Maika Monroe, who is going to play the role of Patricia Whitmore in Resurgence, stated via Collider that the production team has used new filming technologies and the film is going to have better cinematography compared to its prequel, Independence Day.

Independence Day was released in 1996 and was co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich. The film featured an ensemble cast of Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell and Harry Connick Jr. The epic science fiction disaster film focused on a disparate group of people who converge in the Nevada desert in the aftermath of a destructive alien attack. Along with the rest of the capable human population, they participate in a counterattack on July 4, the same date as the Independence Day Holiday in the United States. The film was made against a budget of $75 million dollars and according to Box-Office Mojo, the film earned a whopping $817.4 million dollars.

In 2011, Independence Day producer Dean Devlin confirmed that along with Emmerich, they are going to work on two more sequels to form a Independence Day trilogy. There were earlier talks to cast Smith in both the sequels but Fox refused to pay $50 million salary demanded by him for the two sequels. While talking with Screen Crush, director Emmerich stated that ever since they started planning the sequel to Independence Day, they wanted Smith to come on board.

"He was excited to be in it but then after a while he was tired of sequels, and he did another science fiction film, which was his father-son story, so he opted out," he further added.
