'Goosebumps' Movie Sequel Happening, Jack Black Reprising Role as R.L. Stine

Back in the 90s, author R.L. Stine was considered the Stephen King of children's literature, as he had a very successful series of horror books that were later turned into a TV series, Goosebumps, which followed children in terrifying situations. Last year, the property was revived with a film starring Jack Black as a fictionalized version of the author -- and Sony Pictures is making a sequel!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is already working on contracts for the Goosebumps sequel to happen at some point. Director Rob Letterman (who also helmed Gulliver's Travels and Monsters vs Aliens) and writer Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After, Jack the Giant Slayer) are currently in talks with the studio to return behind the cameras for the encore.

The first film's producers Neal H. Moritz (Furious Seven, 21 Jump Street) and Deborah Forte (The Golden Compass, original 90s Goosebumps series) will return as well.

While last year's Goosebumps movie wasn't a mega hit on the box office, it did fairly well, making $156.7 million globally out of a relatively low $58 million budget. It also fared fairly well with critics, currently holding a 77% "Fresh" rating on critics aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

It took nearly 20 years to get the 2015 film made being that it was a Fox television series for children in 1998. Later, Sony picked up the film rights to Stine's stories and, instead of adapting one of them, ended up mixing several of them together following a story of the author being chased down by his own creations.

Black was one of the few bigger names on the film, besides Ken Marino and Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan. Seeing as the sequel is barely in the earliest stages (namely, the studio and creators are just settling contracts), there's still no word on casting choices for the second part.
