The makers of Assassin's Creed have finally released the first trailer of the upcoming fantasy film featuring Michael Fassbender in his dual avatars of Callum Lynch and his 15th-Century ancestor Aguilar.
The released trailer shows Fassbender as an inmate, Lynch, who is about to be executed by the government for some crime. After dying, when Lynch opens his eyes, he finds himself in a different world where some genetic experiments are conducted. Soon after that, the trailer takes us to the past which shows Fassbender's ancestor Aguilar from the Brotherhood of Assassin's society fighting with the assailants of Templar Secret Society.
With the help of modern genetic technologies, we see how Lynch has acquired all the knowledge of Aguilar and is ready to fight the rising evil. The trailer ends with a note, "we work in the dark to serve the light," and this statement shows the gravity of the film.

Meanwhile, in an earlier interview with the Wall Street Journal, Fassbender talked about the complexities which his characters will face in the upcoming film.
"He is an outsider. He's been institutionalized from his early teens. He's a little bit of a lost soul of sorts. He starts to identify [his] lineage and where he comes from in a way."
Not only this, Fassbender also revealed via Entertainment Weekly that when he was cast to play the lead in the movie adaptation of world famous game, he had no idea about the storyline that was followed in the gaming world.
"I've played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character," Fassbender added.
Assassin's Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel and along with Fassbender, it will feature Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brian Gleeson, Brendan Gleeson and Michael Kenneth Williams in the lead roles. The film is slated to release on Dec. 21.
