Person of Interest S05E05:ShotSeeker Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson Finch/Reese Premiere Recap

CBS airs the Season 5 premiere of Person of Interest. In Episode 5, ShotSeeker, are Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) John Reese (Caviezel), Sameen Shaw (Sarah Shahi) and Root (Amy Acker) ready to fight the all-out war between Samaritan and The Machine?

At a call center, Reese watches the data as Shotseeker analyzes the noise. Officers are in pursuit of gunshots fired and capture the culprit. Reese notices the creator Ethan is lying to his girlfriend.  

Fusco (Kevin Chapman) has to deal with Elias' friend, who wants to know what happened. Finch has the malware in a cell and refuses to let Root tinker with it. Ethan is looking for Krupa, takes out a gun, and starts shooting wildly.

Reese arrives to arrest Ethan but he was already waiting for him.  He shows the difference between gunshots and firecrackers, which means Krupa was indeed murdered. The missing persons case suddenly turns into a homicide investigation. 

Fusco warns Reese he will tell the truth about Elias if he doesn't take care of his friend. Root realizes Finch is searching for a flaw with Samaritan's malware. Samaritan appears to be winning in the simulation against Samaritan. 

While Fusco follows a lead, Reese meets with Elias' friend, Bruce. After losing both of his friends, Bruce cannot accept his best friend is gone. As the police swarm in on Ethan, Fusco has to stand in front of him and hold his badge out.

As Reese gets a witness willing to talk, Finch and Root debate whether or not The Machine  should be armed in the war against Samaritan. Ethan realizes he recognized Krupa's name from high school. She was changing the world while he was wearing headphones. 

While Root is hacking into a laptop, Root and Finch get a call from the Machine. It tuns out Reese's witness is in danger Shotseeker reports gunshots being fired. Reese  and Ethan find themselves being shot at by Mary's shooter. 

Finch discovers the shooter is actually working for Samaritan. Reese is then knocked out by Bruce's henchmen. With a dead witness and Reese kidnapped, Root asks the Machine to find Reese. Because a cop is missing, Fusco leads the troops to find Reese.

With Fusco refusing to listen to Finch, Root has to follow a lead on her own. While Fusco locks himself with a suspect, an assassin is heading straight towards the precinct. Reese finds himself in Brooklyn with Bruce and his henchmen. After finding Krupa's hard drive, Root finds herself in a standoff with a hit-man. 

Reese learns from Bruce that the Samaritan has been knocking out kingpins. Root discovers the hit-man is being manipulated and he doesn't even realize it. Fusco stops the assassin before he kills Ethan. This just makes Samaritan angry. 

As Kurpa's research goes viral, Ethan has become a minimal threat. Reese knocks out the henchmen before making a call to Finch. Fusco tries to cheer up Ethan before he leaves the precinct. 

Elias (Enrico Colantoni) is still alive in his safe-house. Fusco though refuses to stop searching for the truth, making himself a target for Samaritan.
