As we previously mentioned, the sixth season will take place and be shot) in New York City. The setting will take place during the two month period between Election Day and the swearing in of the new POTUS. In the fifth season, Carrie Mathison (Danes) had set up a new life for herself and her daughter in Berlin. While Carrie was the head of security for a philanthropic German billionaire, there was a CIA data breach and civil war brewing that pulled her back into the world of Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) and Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend).
In an interview with Deadline, during The Contenders Emmys all-day event at the DGA Theater, Mirando Otto dished on playing the Berlin CIA Chief of Station with an agenda of her own, "It was very exciting to work with Claire and Mandy, and it was extremely exciting every time we got a new script in because I never knew what was going to happen next."
Showrunner Alex Gansa praises Otto's performance, "We have not had somebody come into the show and take over entire episodes like Miranda has done - she owned a big part of the season this year. I watched this actor take after take, deliver a performance that I have not seen on our show since Damian Lewis left."
According to TV Line, Showtime network's CEO David Nevins is already in talks of renewing the show for for Season 7 and 8.
Nevins states in a conference call, "Homeland is a show that is constantly reinventing itself... since it's very much about this Intelligence world. More than most, this is a show that has an open-ended expiration date, just because of the subject matter."
Season 6 of Homeland will premiere sometime in January 2017.
