It's been over a decade since the last time we saw Renée Zellweger's Bridget Jones, and at that time she was still cozying up with Mark Darcy. Twelve years after the release of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, the clumsy lady that brought Zellweger her first Oscar nomination is back and pregnant by either Colin Firth or Patrick Dempsey in the new trailer for Bridget Jones' Baby!
While Hugh Grant made it clear he was done with the Bridget Jones franchise before this film began filming, its two Oscar-winning stars are still back for more British awkwardness.
As shown in the trailer, the now middle-aged Bridget has been on her own for a while, when she meets the ever-handsome Dempsey (who recently said goodbye to his long-term position of McDreamy in Grey's Anatomy) and they hit it off right away. A steamy affair comes to life, but she also happens to meet up with old love Mark for one throwback night at around the same time.
Not long afterwards, Bridget finds out she's pregnant but, of course, she has no idea which of the two men is the father. She's accompanied in these new adventures by her obstetrician (hilariously played by another Oscar winner, Emma Thompson) as well as her friends and family, while Bridget herself seems undecided as to who she prefers between Mark and Dempsey's character, Jack Qwant.
Zellweger and Firth aren't the only stars returning to the roles they created in the 2001 romantic comedy. James Callis, Sally Phillips and Shirley Henderson are back once again as Bridget's close friends Tom, Shazza and Jude, with Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones returning as Bridget's parents and Celia Imrie playing Una again. New cast members include Dempsey, Thompson, Sarah Solemani, Enzo Cilente and, surprisingly enough, British pop star Ed Sheeran.
Bridget Jones' Baby will mark Zellweger's return to the big screen after taking it easy for a few years. The Oscar-winning actress has her first credits in years in 2016: from a role in The Whole Truth co-starring Keanu Reeves to reprising her role as the British klutz; before that, she hadn't starred in any movies since 2010, when she starred in My Own Love Song with Forest Whitaker and Nick Nolte.
Back in 2014, Zellweger was caught in a wave of bad press when she showed up to a public event for the first time in a while and looked completely different from her former self, prompting rumors of plastic surgery.
