'Grey's Anatomy' News: Season 12 Star Kevin McKidd & Wife Jane Divorcing

Grey's Anatomy star Kevin McKidd might have found love onscreen, as his character Owen Hunt found love with Amelia Shepherd during Season 12 of the hit ABC medical drama, but it looks like he isn't as lucky in his personal life. McKidd and his wife of 17 years, Jane McKidd, have come to the decision to divorce.

According to Us Weekly, the 42-year-old actor and his wife have mutually agreed that the best thing to do for their family and relationship would be to end their marriage.

"Kevin and Jane have jointly decided to end their marriage," an insider explained to the news site. "They look forward to continuing to co-parent their children, who have been their top priority, and will continue to enjoy a close and caring relationship."

The news site reported that the two were wed back in 1999 and that they share two children together, Joseph, 16, and Iona, 14.

It was only last August that the Scottish family were proudly sharing on Twitter that they had officially become American citizens. They explained that the ceremony, which was held at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigrant Service office, made them feel "proud and emotional" to be Americans.

However, while the news of the split is sad, TMZ is reporting that the Kevin and Jane separated back in October of 2015.

The news site is also reporting that Jane is asking to have joint custody of the kids as well as spousal support from McKidd.

Fans will be able to see Kevin when Grey's Anatomy returns this fall for new episodes. Season 12 ended with his character, Dr. Hunt comforting, his soon-to-be wife Amelia, played by Caterina Scorsone, who had her doubts about getting married to him. However, after getting some reassuring words from Meredith and Owen himself, Amelia walked down the aisle and got married.
