The release of Suicide Squad is only a couple of weeks away, and while everyone's most excited to see Jared Leto's take on The Joker and Margot Robbie bringing Harley Quinn to life for the first time in a live-action film, there are still a few mysteries from the DC Extended Universe film -- like who Scott Eastwood will be playing. Has his mystery role been finally revealed?
So far, there have been no official announcements regarding who Eastwood will be playing, even though his casting was announced over a year ago. According to Screen Rant, one thing seems to be certain: he won't be part of the Task Force X (namely, the actual Suicide Squad). The newest theory says that he could be playing a character named Lt. "GQ" Edwards, a soldier who works with Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman).
This is one of the running theories regarding Eastwood's DCEU character, but not at all the most popular one. As Comic Book Movie surmises, the strongest rumor so far is that the Longest Ride actor will in fact be playing Dick Grayson, the former Robin turned Nightwing in the comics.
So far, the running theory is that Nightwing was sent by Batman to do some undercover work and check out what Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) was up to. As shown in this year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Batman, at this point of the DCEU, is no stranger to The Joker, and it has already been confirmed in trailers that Ben Affleck will reprise his role as the Caped Crusader in the villain team-up movie.
Other theories and rumors regarding Eastwood's possible role in Suicide Squad say he could be playing a descendant of Steve Trevor's -- who, of course, is Diana Prince's boyfriend in the comics, and the role will be played by Star Trek actor Chris Pine in next year's Wonder Woman, which will be set during World War I.
Still, the DCEU has a recent history of managing to tease fans with characters: for months, there were rumors that Jena Malone would be playing Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in Dawn of Justice, and it was only a few weeks back that it was revealed that she was actually playing obscure comic book character Jenet Klyburn.
30-year-old Eastwood, the son of legendary film actor and director Clint Eastwood, is quickly making his way into Hollywood with increasingly important appearances, from a role in his father's film Gran Torino to parts in Oliver Stone's Snowden and kaiju sequel Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 5.
