It looks like many Aretha Franklin fans might be disappointed at this sudden news: the 74-year-old singer has cancelled a number of her upcoming concerts due to health issues, and as arecommended by her doctor.
According to Yahoo News, Franklin said, "Due to the doctor's orders, I have to cancel a few concerts for the next month or so."
This isn't the first time the music legend, with a career spanning six decades featuring hits such as "You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman)," "Chain of Fools," "Respect," "Sisters Are Doing it for Themselves," "Ain't No Way," and "I Say a Little Prayer," has had to cancel a concert or so, but it is the second time she had to cancel due to her health.
Back in March, Franklin had to call a few concerts in Florida off because there weren't enough people in the band. In August of 2015, she had to cancel a Las Vegas concert due to exhaustion, and in October that same year she cancelled a show in Oklahoma, saying, "I'm not prepared to drive as far west so soon again," after having traveled a long way to the West Coast.
She added, "I am so sorry to have to disappoint my fans there, but I will reschedule."
Unfortunately this year, she will have to call off quite a number of shows again, including her upcoming show at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts near Vienna, Virginia on Aug. 26, according to Gulf News.
The other cancelled concerts include the two shows at the Radio City Music Hall in New York, an appearance at the Tony Bennett Celebrates 90 show on Sept. 15 as well as her solo show on September 23, along with a few more shows in Detroit and St. Louis.
The Queen of Soul, however, will be returning to the stage on Nov. 11, for a show in Welch, Minnesota, and on Nov. 12 for a show in Chicago. For a singer her age, health is one of her main priorities, so it is only fitting that she gets as much rest as possible during this time between shows so fans and the general public can see her back on her feet and giving her best performances in no time.
Get well soon, Aretha!
