Paul McCartney has shown his support in the United States' campaign for gun control legislation. The former Beatle joins other iconic figures such as Tony Bennet, Yoko Ono, and Gloria Estefan in the campaign. Unfortunately, even with the backing of these music legends, on Wednesday the senate voted down a packet of gun reforms that had been drafted in response to the Newtown school massacre. President Barack Obama called Wednesday's 54 - 46 vote a "shameful" day for Washington.
McCartney knows all too well what can come from gun violence in America. His friend and former Beatle songwriting partner John Lennon was shot to death in 1980.
By texting "MYVOICE" to 877877, you get an automated message from McCartney. After that you are connected to a United States senator's office. Here is what you will hear:
"Hi, this is Paul McCartney, and in a minute you will be connected to a congressperson who needs to hear your voice, now. Tell the congressperson that you support common-sense laws that keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people, including criminal background checks on all gun sales. Enough is enough. Please add your voice -- and thank you for adding your voice to end gun violence."
Besides hearing McCartney's voice over your phone, you have the chance to see him performing live soon. Here are the upcoming 2013 dates for Paul McCartney's "Out There" tour:
