Chalk this one up to "We didn't see this coming." Have the Oscars really asked "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane back to host the 2014 Oscars? According to a report there are rumors that the producers have asked "Ted" funny man to host the highly anticipated award show again. The 39-year-old's hosting performance of the 2013 Oscars was widely panned and criticized for being too risque, even causing some controversy over the humor used throughout the show.
According to JustJared.com, their sources have revealed that the producers of the Oscars not only defended MacFarlane's performance, but they want him back. "After defending his performance, the producers reached out to Seth and invited him back to host the show again," sources told JustJared.com. "He's not sure if he's going to do it, but he has to decide within the next couple of weeks."
This news isn't completely out of left field. The producers of the 2013 Oscars, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have been hired back to produce the 2014 Oscars. They were the ones who hired MacFarlane, so it makes sense that they would be comfortable hiring him again. Despite all the controversy surrounding MacFarlane's 2013 Oscars hosting performance, ratings were said to be way up this past year. As we all know, controversy or not, ratings are what matters. If they hired MacFarlane before, the producers likely knew what they were getting when they hired the controversial funny guy.
Although no decision has been made from MacFarlane yet, he did make his feelings known on Twitter after the 2013 Oscars that he wasn't interested in hosting again. "No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though," MacFarlane tweeted.
What do you think of these latest rumors? Do you think the Oscars want MacFarlane back as their 2014 host? If so, do you want to see MacFarlane host again?
