Ann Curry 'Today Show' Scandal: Drama With Matt Lauer Continues, New Book 'Top of the Morning' Reveals Staffers Bullying Former Co-Host, Described NBC Experience as 'Torture'

Despite being long gone from NBC's "Today" morning show, the drama continues surrounding Ann Curry and "Today." We already know of the drama surrounding Matt Lauer and Curry during her final days as the "Today" co-host, but it looks like a number of "Today" employees treated Curry poorly. According to an excerpt from the new book "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV" by Brian Stelter, a producer named the plot to fire Curry "Operation Bambi." In other startling revelations, Curry reportedly told friends that her "Today" show stay was "torture."

In the New York Times piece giving a preview of the new book by Stelter, Curry felt her final months at "Today" were "professional torture." Curry also felt bullied and belittled by "Today" show crew. Stelter wrote, "Curry felt that the boys' club atmosphere behind the scenes at 'Today' undermined her from the start, and she told friends that her final months were a form of professional torture." Even worse, the book alleges that an executive producer on the show called the firing of Curry "Operation Bambi" after a friend said it would be like "killing Bambi."

There are a number of off-camera incidents that sound like something you would see done by playground bullies to a fellow grade schooler. A "Today" staff member said, "a lot of time in the control room was spent making fun of Ann's outfit choices or just generally messing with her." Of course co-host Matt Lauer is caught up in the drama again as he was mentioned in the book as telling a production assistant, "I can't believe I am sitting next to this woman."

According to the book, staffers even made a blooper reel of all Curry's on-camera mistakes and moved Curry's belongings to the coat closet as if she were already fired. Although you can't always believe everything you read, the book certainly sounds like it will be an entertaining read. Stelter's book comes out April 23 and after all this exposure, he may have a hit on his hands.
