Good news for Android users with slows connections and old model phones, because Facebook is launching a new version of Messenger in "lite" chat app. This new messenger chat app is dedicated for people who use older phones with small storage capability. Also, this is made for Android users with slower internet speed and other similar issues.
According to CbcNews, the company did not mention when the app would be available in other countries. However, for users of Android devices in Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela, 'Messenger Lite' app is already available.
This new 'Messenger Lite' pays tribute to Messenger's more than 1 billion active users. On the other hand, a few months after the Facebook-owned WhatsApp for Android also reached the same milestone.
As reported by The Verge, following the launch of Facebook Lite, this new effort is the result of Facebook's extension of their services to people in developing countries. Thus, they are giving Free Basics for Facebook users to access certain websites without costing any penny.
Facebook is now raising its campaign to connect on the so-called "NEXT BILLION" users all over the globe through emerging markets. Though Facebook may face under criticism for violating net neutrality in seeking to block new users into its services.
This new 'Messenger Lite' will give the same functionality as the usual Messenger. It will give users the same quality to send and receive texts messages, photos, links as well as stickers. In addition to its advantages, this app can be downloaded in the fastest and easiest way possible for its size is only not more than 10MB.
However, Facebook will be ending an option to log into Facebook's mobile website to manage messages for the purpose of focusing people's attention to Messenger only. So, 'Messenger Lite' will function primarily on sending and receiving messages.
"With 'Messenger Lite', more and more people can stay in contact, regardless of what is their network conditions or their storage limitations on their Android devices," Engineering Manager for Facebook App, Tom Mulcahy, wrote in his blog post. Mulcahy also added, "The new 'Messenger Lite' was built to give people a great Messenger experience, no matter what the technology they use or have access to."
