David Lee Roth, lead singer of legendary rock band Van Halen, has confirmed a new album is on the way. The band will reportedly work on a new album this summer in a follow up to their 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth. However, Roth cautioned fans, saying that a new studio album isn't expected to be ready for 2013, in fact, it could be as long as three years.

In an interview with FasterLouder, Roth said Van Halen will begin recording new songs by the end of June. "We are going to be getting together, not this month, at the end of June to start preparing for some new recording and some new songs," Roth told the website. There have been plenty of rumors surrounding the band's 2013 touring plans with there at one point being rumors of a North American tour. However, as of right now the only dates on their website Van-Halen.com are shows in Japan in June and one date in Wisconsin on July 20.

Roth went on to explain to FasterLouder that the process of making a new album will take time. "We plan ahead by about two-and-a-half years in advance, which sounds extravagant...(but) from the time you go, 'Let's start to write some songs,' until all of the machines of production and humanity kick in, things move achingly slow - achingly slow," said Roth. "Especially if you are art-centric, if you want something to last, it's going to take a long time to put it all together. Quick up is quick down. We know about one-hit-wonders and we know about fast, but it's about three years, it takes about three years."

Van Halen will be performing at the Stone Music Festival this Saturday, April 20 in Sydney, Australia. Van Halen appeared at a press conference along with Aerosmith and Billy Joel recently to talk about the festival. Roth spoke about Van Halen's fellow headliners via Anti Music, "I always refer to what Billy Joel's doing on stage with his musical dynamic and his arrangements in terms of 'look how many folks he's worked with, listen to the loud and soft, listen to the fast and slow." Roth went on to say, "I went to school at the college of musical knowledge, the Aerosmith. We were reflecting that although we didn't serve together we've all been trained in the same road work, the same hotel mill, the same cutting of the various record companies and management agencies. Even though we haven't played together we certainly got educated by the same good guys and bad guys. I see me reflected in their eyes."
