Netflix announced that "Narcos" season 3 will air in August 2017 along with major plot twists. Along with the announcement of the series' return, it was also reported that it will run for two more seasons. But all these great news will be overshadowed with a few changes; a new villain rules the show. Cali Cartel will step up as a major player in "Narcos" 3. Actor Boyd Holbrook is also set for a comeback.
iTech Post reported that Boyd Holbrook will reprise his role as Steve Murphy in season 3 of "Narcos." After Pablo Escobar's death in the first season, Steve returned to the US after serving Escobar's accomplice in the Columbian drug trade. Holbrook's return has been confirmed for next season but his stay till the final season of the hit Netflix show is yet to be seen. The actor is set to film for "The Predator" causing his absence in the final "Narcos" season. The series' showrunners are set to confirm this news.
The Cali Cartel will become the main antagonist in the next season. It has been rumored that after Pablo Escobar's death, Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela went front and center. Gilberto will run the drug trade alongside his brother, Miguel Orejuela and Pacho Herrera transporting cocaine to Colombia.
A report from Inquisitir confirmed that the show's creators and cast have already started filming for season 3. A photo was posted in the show' official Twitter account. The picture was captioned "The blow must go on. Pablo might be dead but the war is not over."
While the major characters of the show have been announced, it is not clear who will pursue them next season. A report hinted that it could be the CIA or the DEA since these were still very involved in the drug trade and politics in Columbia.
"Narcos" showrunner Eric Newman explained that despite Escobar's death, they won't replace him in the series. He said that the Cali Cartel is a new kind of villain. Unlike Escobar who was protected by the people, the Cartel was under the wings of a political and economic system. He compared Escobar to a single-celled organism while the Cali Cartel was quite complex.
Newman also teased of a possible move to Mexico but he has yet to confirm this news. The Cali Cartel was known to be influential in the rise of the Mexican drug trade therefore the series may be headed in that direction.
Meanwhile, Netflix has just announced that "Narcos" along with "Stranger Things," have boosted its revenues. Shares are up 17% thanks to these popular series.
