Microsoft proudly revealed its calendar Q3 2016 earnings late last week and it cites an unbelievable increase in revenue. The tech giant credits their success to the awesome performance of their Office programs and of course their flagship Surface line. Microsoft Surface hardware, which includes the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4, has obviously taken the lead. Stock prices soared higher than $60 which was a level unseen since December 1999.
According to a report from Forbes, Microsoft reported Surface's revenue at $926 million in the quarter. This was higher than 38 percent last year with only $672 million. And because of this positive response, Microsoft is reported to be unveiling a new Surface product next week. This is an all-in-one PC that would surely boost their sales next quarter of the year.
When compared head to head with other hardware, Surface hardware secures second place in terms of market share and sales. Compared to Apple, the Surface may find hard to attract customers but reports said that the Surface really does not have to compete with the MacBook hardware line.
Surface does not have to dominate the market; it simply has to build up Microsoft and to show to the world how innovative Windows 10 could be. Surface manifests Windows 10 in an actual physical hardware which users are contented to use.
According to company CEOs, the Surface has a lot of potential and it comes from its Windows 10 OS, the cloud and Microsoft as a whole. It may not outsell the MacBook and iPad but it continues to challenge Apple's strong position in the market.
Meanwhile, Business Insider mentioned that Microsoft's unveiling of the all-in-one PC next week is a do or die move. The report said that the launch will be billed as the future of Windows 10; the event is said to push Windows 10 into touch screen devices.
Windows may have failed to take the lead in the mobile gadget industry ruled by Apple and Android devices but it is not actually dead yet. There are still millions of PCs and laptops that use Windows. According to the report, Windows new operating system is still yet to bear more fruit. Windows has to do better to risk a slow death.
