Star Wars fans in the UK are in for a treat this holiday season. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to hit the theatres a day earlier in the UK than the US.
Announced via Twitter, Star Wars UK gave the good news that the UK will have a December 15 premier for Rogue One, along with countries like Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Columbia, Portugal and Russia to name a few. Other countries, like Belgium, Denmark, France, Sweden, The Netherlands and Taiwan will be getting it on December 14, which is two days earlier than the US, which has a December 16 schedule. The US release for Rogue One will be around the same time The Force Awakens was released last year. This is not new, however, as the same scheduling was done last year for the seventh installment in the Star Wars franchise.
IGN said, Rogue One, was the first standalone Star Wars movie since Disney bought LucasFilm, is set on the events before the start of Episode 4: A New Hope. The story revolves around a group of individuals working together with one goal: getting the plans for the Death Star, the Empire's greatest instrument of destruction. Fans of the original trilogy would be familiar with this, as the plans for the Death Star became an important plot point that spearheaded Luke Skywalker's adventure in the galaxy far, far away.
The tweet, according to Movieweb, included a GIF of the X-Wing battle shown at the latest trailer for Rogue One. This would surely bring the already hyped crowd to frenzy, making the wait to December's release all the more exciting.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and led by Felicity Jones and Diego Luna, it is stated to be the first of three standalone Star Wars movies that have been confirmed at the moment. Second on the list would focus on the adventures of a young Han Solo, set before the events of A New Hope. It would star Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. It is scheduled for a May 2018 release. The third is set for 2020, and would reportedly focus on Boba Fett.
