Fans of the British show "Sherlock" went wild when the release date of the fourth season of the show was unexpectedly announced onscreen after the "Bake off" final. Benedict Cumbercatch has made quite a following for being the infamous detective Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes.
The promo for "Sherlock" was shown even when the credits for "Bake off" were still rolling. It showed a black screen with a violin, the word "Sherlock" and 01.01.17. This was immediately picked up by avid fans of the show to mean that the detective will return to TV screens on New Year's Day 2017.
Fans immediately took to social media to voice out their excitement according to Mail Online. The 90-second teaser was enough to make the upcoming "Sherlock" Season 4 the trending topic in Twitter.
The last season of "Sherlock" had ended in 2014 and it seem quite a while before news of another season hits the viewers. Earlier this year, however, an in-between was released and was titled "The Abominable Bride". The fourth season was said to also be the return of the villain, Professor Moriarty.
Fans have feared however of rumors that the forth coming season of "Sherlock" might be the last. The show's co-creator Steven Moffat had mentioned in a report that this could be the last season for "Sherlock". In a report by TV Line, Cumberbatch had said on his interview with GQ magazine that "it feels like the end of the era."
The actor made a clarification to hush the rumors. Further in the report by Mail Online, Cumberbatch said that "he did not say it will be the last but only for the time being." He added that each episode might be shown in long intervals.
It was reported that the fourth season of "Sherlock" will have three episodes just like the three seasons prior. The first episode is titled "The Six Thatchers" and the second "The Lying Detective". The third episode is still unnamed and no leaks of information can be found anywhere making the mystery show more mysterious. Watch the trailer of "Sherlock" Season 4 here.
