It's Official! "Mr. Robot" star Rami Malek plays Freddy Mercury "Bohemian Rhapsody"

Rami Malek is best known for his role as the anti-social computer programmer "Elliot Alderson" in the television series Mr. Robot, he is also known for his portrayal of "Josh Washington" in the video game Until Dawn. The actor will also be starring in the film "Papillion" that is in the pre-production stage.

The film Bohemian Rhapsody under the direction of Bryan Singer has been under production for eight years, with Anthony McCarten as screenplay writer and "Queen" band members Brian May and Roger Taylor as the music producers. As told by The Guardian, in the earlier production of the film, disagreements between the film direction and Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) who happen to be the original cast for Freddy Mercury led to him quitting in the film production.

According to The Sun, "artistic differences" brewed due to the development of the plot when lead singer Freddy Mercury dies from his battle with AIDS virus. This was said to happen in the middle of the film, the following parts of the film was said to revolve around the band's journey carrying on without their front man. This apparently did not sit well with Sacha Baron Cohen, he stated "Listen, not one person is going to see a movie where the lead character dies from Aids and then you see how the band carries on."

Queen band member Brian May released statements about Sacha Baron Cohen claiming how he acted like "an arse" and that he went off and told Sunday's Event magazine lies about what really went down during the disagreements.

Other choices for the role of Freddy Mercury was hoped to be Ben Whishaw who May called to be "a real actor". So far there has been no official release date announcement yet, but the film is set to begin shooting in the early parts of 2017.
