The trailer for Disney's Beauty and the Beast is out, and all those who have seen the original would be filled with nostalgia. As the most recent of Disney's live-action adaptation of its classic animated movies, the trailer showcases several key scenes from the 1991 classic.
Starting with a few notes from the iconic track, it shows Belle, played by Emma Watson, stumbling into Beast's mansion, portrayed by Dan Stevens. She finds her father, played by Kevin Kline, locked up and gives her a warning: "You must leave here. This castle is alive!"
Beast then makes an appearance, asking if she would like to trade places with her father. She agrees, but not before being shocked after seeing his face.
Staying in the castle proved that her father's words are true: the castle is alive - or more appropriately, the household items are alive. Memorable characters come alive like Mrs. Potts (Emma Thompson), Cogsworth (Ian McKellen) Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) and Chip (Nathan Mack), among others.
The trailer features one of the most memorable parts in the film - the ballroom scene. With Belle wearing the iconic yellow gown and Beast donning the blue coat, it seems as if it was pulled out from the animated movie itself.
Gaston, played by Luke Evans, is also seen on the trailer for the movie, which hits theatres on March 17, 2017. Several of his scenes show how he rallied the townspeople into taking over Beast's castle and his climactic battle with Beast at the end of the film.
The trailer ends showing the rose, which, in the animated classic, played an important part in the spell that befell Beast and the castle. It also had the last notes of the iconic track playing on the background.
Director Bill Condon tells People that fans should expect the songs from the movie come back in this new adaptation, as well as a few new ones. The new tracks, according to Condon, will be used as part of the new film's intention to fill out the backstories of Belle and Beast. He adds that the actors themselves do the singing, including Sir Ian McKellen.
Regarding to the character of Belle, Watson stated that some tweaks were done to make the character more proactive and in charge. Noting that Belle's father, Maurice, is an inventor, they played with that idea on screen, making her an inventor as well. As E! News reports, Watson's Belle made a sort-of washing machine, so she can do more reading while doing the laundry. She also adds that her version of Belle is very practical, opting for boots instead of ballet shoes, and even the yellow gown that she wears in the ballroom scene was customized to be light and had a lot of movement.
Based on the French fairy tale of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, the Beauty and the Beast animated movie became the third-highest grossing film of 1991. It tells a story of a prince who was cursed due to his arrogance, and a young woman whom he imprisons inside his castle. The cursed prince must win the love of the woman for the spell to be broken, or else he stays as a beast forever.
