DC’s Young Justice returns for Season Three

After an unexpected cancellation, Young Justice will be gracing the small screens once again. Warner Bros. has officially announced a third season for this team of young superheroes.

Citing the affection of the fans for the show and their rallying cry for new episodes, Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, makes the announcement of the show's return. According to IGN, the third season promises to have "new twists, turns and dangerous new threats for the team. It would also allow the superheroes to continue with their adventures. Seeing that Darksied was hinted at the end of the second season, it is possible that this would be the plot for season three.

 While it has been confirmed that both Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood) and Greg Weisman (Star Wars Rebels) will be returning as producers for the series, there has been no word as to when the show will air or which network will carry the program. Deadline notes, though, that Netflix could possibly carry the series, seeing that the first two seasons have received a cult following after airing at the streaming service.

While Young Justice is not a direct adaptation of the comic series of the same name by Peter David, Todd Dezago and Todd Nauck, is more of an adaptation of the whole DC universe, with the emphasis on its younger superheroes.

Referred to as "The Team", it is composed of teenaged superheroes and protégées that are usually related to the Justice League, making "The Team" its junior counterpart. Starting with Robin (Dick Greyson), Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm), Kid Flash (Wally West), Superboy (Conner Kent) and later on Miss Martian (M'gann M'orzz), the "Team" had additional members like Artemis, Speedy, Zatanna, Beast Boy, among others.

The show, which ran from 2010 to 2013, was originally shown on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim for two seasons. Warner Bros. pulled the plug after the second season, with low toy sales as the main reason. Fans of the series tried to save the show through crowdfunding, however the studio insisted on ending the series.
