One day after Beyonce dropped her amazing "Mrs. Carter Show" world tour hype video, we're learning that photos of Bey that aren't on the 2013 tour-touting clips level will not be tolerated. The Queen has banned all press photographers from her tour.
In a venue contract posted to Facebook by the group "Music Photographers" there is a clause that states the following:
"There are no photo credentials for this show. Local news outlets, including print and online will be given a link to download photos from every show. They will need to register to access the photos."
What Beyonce's team hopes this means is that only photos taken by Frank Micelotta, the tour's official photographer, will reach the press. However, you should probably expect to see grainy, amateur photos of Beyonce if her tour stops in your town. A ban on professional photography puts a premium on concertgoer snapped pictures for highly competitive news outlets.
"[The media] will do anything possible to get images that other publications don't have," explained Noam Galai of photography blog Fstoppers. "If they can't send a photographer to give them original photos, the next best thing they can do is buy photos from fans in the front rows in the arena ... Now, not only is the mainstream media showing unflattering photos of her, they are showing bad-quality unflattering photos of her."
It's likely that this is a reaction to the meme that sprouted up around Beyonce's "unflattering" Super Bowl photo meme. When Buzzfeed posted pics of Beyonce exerting herself mid-stomp, Bey's US publicist Yvette Noel-Schure asked the website to take them down.
"I am certain you will be able to find some better photos," Noel-Schure wrote.
However, when news that Beyonce's team was trying to censor the photos got out, the Internet had a Photoshop field day. They edited the pic of Bey to include Olympic weightlifting, Dragon Ball Z references and the Hulk.
What do you think of Beyonce's decision to ban photographers from the Mrs. Carter Show world tour? Is it the right one? Is this merely another controversy that will plague the 2013 tour?
