Showtime network president David Nevins would not rule out the possibility of a "Dexter" spinoff when asked about plans after the show's run ends next season.
The Hollywood Reporter asked Nevins about the rumors of a spinoff focused on Dexter's sister, Deb, and Nevins did not confirm or deny the idea of a new series in the future.
"All options are on the table as to where it could go after this. There's nothing actively happening, but you never know what the future holds," Nevins said. "We need to get through this season and see how the dust settles and then see where we go from there. I won't rule it out, but I'm not actively planning anything."
"Dexter" will debut its eighth and final season on June 30, 2013. This marks the first time ever in the show's run that it will debut in the summer.
The show's seventh season was its highest rated since it debuted in 2006. Both "Dexter" and "Homeland" share the title of No. 1 scripted series on the Showtime network.
Showtime plans to use the end of "Dexter" to launch its latest drama series, "Ray Donovan," a show about a man who fixes celebrities' problems.
