Kaylee Rodgers is just 10 but she has already become an Internet sensation, thanks to her singing Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' during her school choir's performance. The video of the girl singing solo was posted on Facebook and the magnificent performance went viral in no time.
It received near to 2 million views. Kaylee's performance caught more attention since she is a patient of autism and ADHD and she has taken up singing as a way to boost her self-confidence. She lives in Donaghadee in County Down in Northern Ireland and studies at Killard House Special School.
The National Autistic Society defines autism as a developmental disability which affects a person's communicating with and relating to other people. ADHD, on the other hand, is defined as a group of behavioral symptoms like inattentiveness, impulsiveness and hyperactivity.
Kaylee later spoke with ITV to share her thoughts on her performance and said she loved staging the performance and was amazed by the number of views her video got. For someone who had a problem in communicating, such an appreciation was undoubtedly big.
Members of Kaylee's school were extremely glad with what she did on stage. Collin Millar, principal of the school said it was amazing to see a child who wouldn't talk, read, stand or perform in front of an audience doing so. The video posted on Facebook drew huge applause with blessings pouring in. While one viewer wrote that Kaylee suited the song, another praised her voice, calling it "stunning".
The other children who accompanied Kaylee in the choir were also praised. For many, Kaylee's rendition was perhaps the best tribute to Cohen, the multi-talented Canadian artiste who passed away last month at the age of 82. One viewer who praised the little girl's voice said Cohen would have loved her singing.
